Forests.

Forests have been on Earth for more than 350 million years. During this time, they have become the cradle of millions of species of organisms, including humans, stabilizing the Earth's climate and conditions suitable for life. They have done all this without the help of humans and have become increasingly diverse, complex and stable.

We have to do a lot to ensure that NOTHING is done to forests. One of our activities is the purchase or lease of forests. Thanks to your help, we have already managed to save over 400 hectares. The area of ​​​​the territories in which the WOLF has directly participated in the protection through purchase, long-term lease, creation of private reserves and increasing the area of ​​​​state reserves is already 3,224 hectares.

Since 2003, we have been participants in more than 4,000 administrative proceedings, in which we tirelessly promote the real protection of protected areas and species. As a result, authorities in the areas with the highest level of protection, which is approximately 94,000 hectares, have stopped granting exemptions allowing logging, stopped allowing aerial chemical spraying in national parks, and significantly limited the issuance of permits for ground spraying.

We are not planting trees, we are saving forests.

Wolves and bears.

We have managed to stop the regulatory hunting of bears, i.e. the hunting of bears that do not threaten anyone or cause significant damage, because killing them, unlike preventive measures, does not solve the causes of the problems. We are challenging in court the exemptions for their shooting in cases where they do not pose a threat to humans and are not problem individuals.

In 2021, wolves became a protected species in Slovakia, and even though they have lost their year-round protection in the meantime, we are putting pressure on them to stop their shooting. They are an important part of our nature, preventing the spread of African swine fever and regulating the abundance of overgrown ungulates in forests.

Legislation and vision.

We influence laws, help local communities protect their environment and advocate for nature conservation wherever possible. Since the founding of WOLF in 1993, we have been fulfilling our vision of nature conservation and creating a network of truly protected areas, the so-called Evolutionary Forests, in which trees are not cut down, animals are not killed, pesticides are not used.

So that Slovakia, at least on 10% of its territory, would have protected areas whose development would be determined by natural processes and people would do NOTHING in them, just watch, admire, learn and get to know each other.

Financing of WOLF.

WOLF is not funded by the state, the government or the European Union. We are a volunteer organization and we obtain funds for our activities through permanent small monthly payments from supporters, the so-called 77-crown, an assignment of 2% of the tax, and we obtain funds for the purchase of forests through the Buy Your Own Tree® collection.
