Collection status

In 1997, the WOLF Forest Protection Movement Group began an action to save the fir-beech forest in the Čergov Mountains in eastern Slovakia. The forest, covering an area of 21.24 ha, is currently the property of the WOLF Forest Protection Movement. In 2004, the entire forest was declared a private nature reserve of Vlčia with the highest - 5th level of protection. To save the forest by purchasing it from the original owner, we received 1,822 contributions from contributors from 19 countries around the world. We thank everyone very much. The plots that belong to Vlča are registered on the title deed number 510, cadastral territory of Olejníky, Sabinov district.

The collection continues with the aim of purchasing as many hectares of forest around Vlčia as possible.

If you want to join those who helped save the first 21 hectares, buy your tree according to the instructions on this website or on the leaflet Buy your tree/Help save the forest - donate a tree out of love, which we can send you by mail. You can read about the status of the collection and the expansion and protection of Vlčia on this website.
Among the happy symbolic owners or buyers of trees are also famous personalities, such as writers: from Slovakia Jana Bodnárová and from Poland Oľga Tokarczuková, singers - Janko Kuric from the band Vidiek, Kuly from DESMOD, Yxo from HEX and Jaromír Nohavica, actor Jevgenij Libezňuk, philosopher Erazim Kohák, historian Pavel Dvořák and many others. The tree also brought joy to the now deceased benefactors of the forest - Nobel Prize winner for literature Wisława Szymborska and actor Leopold Haverl. Already at the very beginning of the collection, a nice tradition of giving a tree to someone began. These are, for example, gifts for graduation, name day, birthday, very often for anniversaries: 50th and 60th. Trees are a popular wedding gift and a gift for the birth of a child.

Schools of all levels regularly participate in the Buy Your Own Tree campaign. A tree or trees are symbolically purchased by a class or the entire school. The record holder in tree purchases is the M. R. Štefánik Elementary School in Ivanka pri Dunaji, which bought its 26th tree in 2018.

Amálka Žilková received a tree for her birthday in February 2017 from members of the WOLF Malé Karpaty tribe.

Tamarka, Anežka and Jonáško received her first tree from her grandfather Peter Markoš as Real estate collateral.

Martin and Martina Bakovci, with their daughters Linda and Laura, have 4 trees in Vlčia.
