Financial contribution

The WOLF forest protection movement has been protecting natural forests in Central Europe for thirty years. We purchase endangered natural forests and establish private, hands-off reserves within them; we expose theft and illegal activities in the forests; through direct actions on the ground, we halt the logging of what remains of Slovakia’s most beautiful forests; we publish books and flyers, and organize international conferences, lectures, and educational field trips in the forests for activists.

Of course, this is all thanks to the tremendous help and work of our members and supporters. But enthusiasm and your help alone aren’t enough. We have to pay for things. Forests can only be bought with money. We have to pay surveyors, for aerial photos, studies, and lawyers. Phone companies charge us for calls, and printers charge us for paper for books and leaflets. To remain independent, we do not accept aid from the state, the European Union, or large corporations.

We want our work to be financially supported primarily by those it serves—ordinary people. Four ways you can support WOLF’s work:

• Buy Your Own Tree - you can help save the fir-beech forest in the Čergov Mountains by symbolically purchasing a real tree there. The contribution will be used solely for the purchase of the forest; all other costs are covered by other sources. This method of financing is unique worldwide... more
• 77-crown note - a recurring monthly donation of at least 77 forest crowns (converted to EUR at the current exchange rate) helps fund other activities related to forest acquisition, including studies, survey plans, aerial photographs, and office operations... more
• 2% of tax - Since 2001, the law has allowed taxpayers to donate a portion of their taxes to a non-governmental organization that meets the prescribed conditions. VLK meets these conditions, and every April you can provide significant support for our work through this method as well. With these donations, we finance a forty-year lease of 160 hectares of a 200-year-old fir-beech forest in the Western Tatras.... more
• Donation - if none of the support options suit you but you still wish to donate a sum to VLK, you can send any amount to our special account. The use of this support is similar to that of the 77-crown note donation.
