Who we are
The Forest Conservation Group VLK was established in 1993 on the basis of the conservation organization SZOPK VLK Prešov. We are a non-governmental organization that is funded primarily by contributions from individuals and we are not dependent on the state.
The main goal of the organization is to save natural forests. The long-term vision is to create a network of so-called evolutionary forests on 10% of the area of Slovakia, where natural processes are protected (not only individual species of plants or animals), through the creation of private reserves, leasing forests, designing and promoting new state and expanded reserves and ensuring the protection of existing protected areas. We emphasize the protection of animals standing at the top of the pyramid of Slovak nature - the so-called large carnivores (bear, wolf, lynx), which are constantly threatened by various interest groups.
VLK founded the ABIES publishing house, which focuses on publishing books in the field of deep ecology and in the field of new perspectives on the forest.
